Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types, including osteoblasts (bone cells), chondrocytes (cartilage cells), myocytes (muscle cells) and adipocytes (fat cells). They can be isolated from various tissues in the body, including bone marrow, adipose tissue, dental pulp, placental tissue, and umbilical cord tissue. The multipotent properties of MSCs make them an ideal cell type for cellular therapies involving immunomodulation and regenerative medicine applications.
Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs) are isolated from living and cadaveric bone marrow aspirate following protocols designed specifically for the isolation and growth of MSCs. Cells from each tissue product are characterized for their expression of CD73, CD90 and CD105 (>95%) and lacking expression of hematopoietic lineage markers CD34, CD45, CD11b, CD14, CD19 or CD79α, and HLA-DR. Each product source is also tested for their ability to differentiate into osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and adipocytes, as defined for MSCs by the International Society for Cellular Therapy (ISCT). Additional lineage marker analysis is available by request. Each MSC product is cryopreserved in vials at passages 2-4, and a specific passage is available upon request. Most experimental protocols utilize MSCs following the 4th passage.
