The Colony-Forming Unit (CFU) Assay is an in vitro culture process for enumerating multipotential and lineage-committed hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) in bone marrow, blood and other hematopoietic tissues.
To ensure viability of post processed cells, stem cells are cultured using methocult media and meniscus free smart dishes. After 14 days of tissue culture, the StemVision imaging and colony counting device is used to quantitate and classify the number of hematopoietic colony forming units produced by erythroid, myeloid and multipotent progenitor cells. The StemVision system acquires an image of the entire culture plate then uses advanced software to identify and classify each of the hematopoietic colonies. This software removes the CFU counting variability often seen using manual methods.
